The town records that Ina Tadatsugu, a Kanto intendant, extended a canal carried as far as Soja in Maebashi on to Tamamura. The Takigawa Canal, completed in 1610, opened the new fields of Kami-Shinden and Shimo-Shinden, and Tadatsugu is said to have moved Kadobuchi Hachimangu to the midpoint between them. The main hall, in nagare-zukuri style, is an Important Cultural Property.

Three rounds of “Harukuwa yoshi,”then the hoes are thrown.

The Harukuwa Festival, held every 11 February at Higoshi Shinmeigu Shrine, is a rice-planting rite that celebrates a good harvest in advance. Before the worship hall, hoe bearers mime working the field, and when the head priest cries “Harukuwa yoshi,” everyone calls back. After three rounds, the hoes are thrown. It became a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2002.
