Onomichi City isthis kind of town.

  1. 01Onomichi has named Go its city sport. In Innoshima's Tonoura, a memorial museum has rebuilt the birthplace of the Edo-period player Honinbo Shusaku from the surviving floor plan of his old home.
  2. 02Since it became a shipping-storehouse (kurashikichi) port of the Bingo Ota estate in 1169, Onomichi has prospered as a port town. An urban site lies under the old town, and lanes have linked the temples on the slopes with the seaside hamlets.
  3. 03On the islands of the roughly 70 km Shimanami Kaido are the lemons said to have originated in Ikuchijima (Setoda), the Oyumi archery ritual of Momoshima, and the five hundred rakan of Mt. Shirataki on Innoshima.
