An inn that opened in Meiji 5 (1872) in the Sekishu Road post town. It has a main house, a garden and four detached rooms, the latter built from the early Taisho era to around 1947-48. Fuchu City took it over in 2020 and opens the main house's first and second floors (partly excepted) free, 9:00-17:00.

02 / Tenryo Joge Magistrate's Office Site

The Joge magistrate's officegoverned 71 shogunate villages.

After the survey of Genroku 11 (1698), 50,000 koku of the former Fukuyama domain became shogunate land and a magistrate's office was set up in Joge. It governed 71 villages in three districts, about 40,000 koku. It later became a branch outpost of the Omori magistrate's office in Iwami and lasted to the end of the Edo period. The merchant house Kyu-Tanabe-tei is said to have been a kakeya handling public funds.

03 / Kui-Yano Gankai (Boulder Sea)

At Yano in Joge, huge granite boulders lie piled up in a small valley. They measure 2 to 8 meters across and the pile is over ten meters thick. Kui in Mihara City has a boulder sea too, and the two were designated together as a national Natural Monument in 1964.

Fuchu lies in the inland southeast of Hiroshima Prefecture, covering 195.75 km². The Ashida River system flows to the Seto Inland Sea. The JR Fukuen Line reaches Fukuyama in about 45 minutes. Joge Town was incorporated in 2004.

  1. 01Okinaza in the Joge district is a two-story wooden theater that opened in 1927 (Showa 2). Built as a playhouse for kabuki, it was later also used as a cinema.
  2. 02In the northern half of the city center around Motomachi, excavations revealed the Bingo provincial capital, and the site became a national historic site in 2016. At Nangu Shrine in Kurige, the bell tower is under dismantling repair, due to finish in March 2027.
  3. 03The 46-year effort to protect the national butterfly, the great purple emperor, in Sodono ends in 2026, and the protection facility is due to be dismantled within the year. At Konpira Shrine in Fuchu-cho stands a stone lantern that took about 30 years to complete.
