Miyoshi City isthis kind of town.

  1. 01The Teramachi-haiji ruins (寺町廃寺跡) in Mukaieda are what remains of an ancient provincial temple thought to have been built in the late Asuka period and to have lasted into the Heian period, presumed to be the Mitani-dera (三谷寺) recorded in the Nihon Ryoiki (日本霊異記). That book records that a district chief of Mitani in Bingo vowed before leaving for war to build a temple, returned home, and built Mitani-dera.
  2. 02Miyoshi, the setting of the Ino Mononokeroku, has Yadani Kofun, a mound shaped like two four-cornered projecting mounds joined together, and Miyoshi cormorant fishing, a prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
  3. 03There are also Unpekikyo (運甓居), the residence of the Miyoshi magistrate Rai Kyohei, named after a calligraphy he hung there, Joseidaki in Sakugi, and kagura in three lines, Iwami, Bingo and Hiba Kojin, each district holding a small piece of history.
