In 1999, Yasuda Ryo and others took on the damage wild boar caused, and licensed hunters grew from 29 to 100. A producers' cooperative formed in 2004 and became a company in 2017; today it recovers 70-80% of the 400-600 boar caught each year, turning them into canned meat and more.

02 / Bali's Mas Village and the Jukung

Wanting to gather boats from around the world, the town found its way to a Balinese canoe.

In 1991, to mark the opening of its Canoe Museum, built under a hometown revitalization project, the town sought a boat from Bali: the jukung. Artisans came to build and launch one over about a month, and two years later, in 1993, the two communities signed a friendship agreement.

Carried by 300 horses and 400 people, the mountain path best keeps its old look.

In the Edo period, silver from Iwami Ginzan and materials for refining it were carried by a great convoy of 300 horses and 400 people. The roughly 7km Yanashio road best preserves the look of that time, and together with the Morihara road, it was named a National Historic Site in February 2018.
