Kusabuka Jinshiro (草深甚四郎) is said to have been born in Kawakita. He left home at 13 to train, returned at 29, and founded the Shinjin-ryu (深甚流) school of swordsmanship. An anecdote holds that he once fought the famed swordsman Tsukahara Bokuden (塚原卜伝) to a draw.
