01 / Upper Iwabuchi Tunnel

On a waterway west of the Nikaido residence in Shintomi is the Upper Iwabuchi Tunnel. The works, led by the magistrate Shimazu Zusho Hisamichi, opened paddies worth 2,000 koku in Shintomi and Nozaki villages. Begun in 1661 and finished in 1671, they are marked nearby by the stone monument Takayama Shinmizo-ki.

02 / Tsukazaki Camphor Tree

A camphor tree, a national Natural Monument,grows on Tsukazaki Tumulus No. 1.

It grows on Tumulus No. 1 (a round mound) of the Tsukazaki Tumulus Group and is a national Natural Monument. Its estimated age is said to be 1,200 to over 1,300 years, with a height of 25 m and a trunk 14 m around. It is regarded as the sacred tree of Tsukazaki Otsuka Shrine, and a boardwalk has protected its roots since 2013.

03 / Nagoshidon

Gods moved into masks receive a sacred danceon the Kishira shore.

The sacred dance of Hirata Shrine is offered on the Kishira shore on August 14 each year. At Nagoshidon, a summer purification festival, the deities are moved into three Sarutahiko masks and a dance is offered to the sea god, praying for the community's good fortune. Only three dances can now be passed on; a straw-rope crossing follows.

Kimotsuki was formed on July 1, 2005, when the towns of Takayama and Uchinoura merged. There is no railway station in the town, and the gateway is the town office. The main office is in Shintomi in former Takayama, with a general branch office in Uchinoura and a branch in Kishira.
