01 / Dragon's Eye

A 29 m tunnel takes the setting sunonly around the equinoxes.

On a prefectural road in En village is the 29 m Kaganbana Tunnel. Only for a few days around the spring and autumn equinoxes, the setting sun fits right inside. Because it looks like an eye set in a dragon's face, it is called the Dragon's Eye or Dragon Eye.

02 / Akina Arasetsu Rites

The rites are two: Shochogama at dawn and Hirase Mankai in the evening. At Shochogama a one-sided roof on the hillside is shaken down; at Hirase Mankai, prayers go to the gods of Neriya, beyond the sea. They were designated a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 1985.

03 / Mud-Dyed Tatsugo-gara Technique

With teichi-bark liquid and a mud field,silk turns from brown to black.

The mud-dyeing technique for Tatsugo-gara Oshima tsumugi, in Kado, is a town-designated intangible folk cultural property. The town writes that silk is dipped alternately in a teichi-bark decoction and lime solution, then turned black in a mud field. The town introduces Kado as the birthplace of Tatsugo-gara.
