On breakwaters built to calm the waves, coral forms colonies.

To break waves and restore the beach, offshore breakwaters were placed along the Nahari Port coast between 1975 and 1993. According to the Japan Society of Civil Engineers' journal, coral began settling on them around 1975, and a 2003 survey found 73 species, 22 of them recorded in Tosa Bay for the first time.

Nahari Town isthis kind of town.

  1. 01Hōon-ji Overpass (法恩寺跨線橋) is a stone arch bridge over the approach path to Sankō-in (三光院), one of the constituent properties of a Japan Heritage story. Built around 1933, it was raised as a path bridge over the tracks because the Yanase Forest Railway's Nahari River line was to cross the approach. It now spans a town road on the old track bed and remains part of the approach.
  2. 02Coral has settled on the breakwaters of Furusato Beach (ふるさと海岸). The Kaihin Center offers marine activities for viewing coral offshore. The Hamada Noriya House is a landlord's estate, and the plaque at Sankō-in depicts timber floating on the Nahari River.
  3. 03The mayor's greeting says the Noneyama Kaido was opened in the Yoro era as an official road linking Tosa and Awa, and that the Tosa Diary records the place as Naha no Tomari. Thirty-seven buildings in town are Registered Tangible Cultural Properties, and specialties include figs and golden eye snapper.
