It lies on the eastern slope of the Seibaru plateau (清原台地), continuing from Eta Funayama Kofun. A natural fissure, said to be an old rain gully, was shaped by hand and partly roofed over to make a tunnel. Theories differ, including a waterway or a place of worship; who built it, when, and why remains a mystery. The town says it is closed to entry.
