Where a plant of salty wetlands grows,Honshu's only wild site.

Akkeshi-so (アッケシソウ) is a leafless annual that turns deep crimson in autumn, so it is also called coral grass (サンゴ草). In Japan, its distribution is confirmed only in Hokkaido and Kagawa, Ehime and Okayama prefectures. The habitat on the Yorishima reclaimed land is a natural monument of Asakuchi City.

Asakuchi City isthis kind of town.

  1. 01The former Takato House is a townhouse in Kamogata Machiya Park and a prefecturally designated Important Cultural Property of Okayama. A building plaque records a repair in 1687 (Teikyo 4). The city says the family held the village headman post almost hereditarily from the mid-Edo period, ran a soy sauce business among others, and hosted the lord of the Kamogata domain as a lodging.
  2. 02Asakuchi is made up of three areas: Konko, Kamogata and Yorishima. Konko is the birthplace of Konkokyo, and the town of Otani, its temple town, bustles at the great services each April and October. Yorishima has long been a fishing town, and the city's fish is the oyster.
  3. 03On Chikurinji-yama, straddling Kamogata and Yakage, stands the Okayama Astronomical Museum. On the same grounds are the National Astronomical Observatory's 188 cm reflecting telescope and Kyoto University's Seimei Telescope.

If something caught your eye, ask the town itself.
