A pond said to hold a great serpent,Yara has made offerings on old-calendar June 15.

This pond lies in the hills on the border of Kadena and Okinawa City, upstream on the Hija River; a 1934 survey recorded its area as 715 tsubo. A legend tells of a great serpent bringing storms, and the tale of a dutiful girl became the basis of the kumiodori play Koko no Maki.

02 / Senbaru Eisa

In a small settlement of 7 or 8 households,the town says it began to honor ancestors.

Around 1800, migrants from Shuri, Naha and Kume village formed a small settlement of 7 or 8 households at Senbaru, in a corner of Noguni village. Some 12 or 13 young men are said to have started their own eisa there to honor ancestors and entertain villagers.

03 / Kyan Chotoku

Kyan Chotoku was born in Shuri's Gibo village in November 1870. He studied under Matsumura Sokon of Shuri-te and Oyadomari Kokan of Tomari-te, and from about age 38 lived near the Hija River teaching younger students. Known as Chanmigwa, he was small but famed for his quick technique.
