01 / Tanigawa tiles

The original tiles left on the main hall roofare said to be almost all Tanigawa tiles.

The Osaka Prefecture designation report says that roof repairs in 2023 and 2024 showed many of the original tiles of the Kozenji main hall remain, almost all of them said to be Tanigawa tiles. Tanagawa, where they were made, had clay, firewood and a shipping port close by, and became a major production area from the Edo period to the Taisho era. The report names the oldest inscribed Tanigawa tile as dated Eisho 12 (1515).

It is a national Historic Site (designated 1922). The designation text of that time says the keyhole-shaped mound has a surviving moat holding water. The town says a stone covering (fukiishi) and rows of cylindrical haniwa are known and a nagamochi-type stone coffin has been confirmed, and that the Nihon Shoki's record of the burial of Kinooyumi no Sukune leads to the tradition that this is his tomb.
