The memorial at a temple in Sekino-cho was erected in 1795 (Kansei 7) by farmers of seven nearby new-field villages, beginning with Sekino Shinden, in memory of the intendant Kawasaki Heiemon. His posthumous name is carved on the front and "Kawasaki-shi" on the side. Kawasaki and others are said to have planted cherries along the Tamagawa Josui bank around Koganei Bridge.

At the foot of the Kokubunji Cliff Line (the "hake"), water wells up between large rocks. It is one of the 57 Famous Springs of Tokyo. The metropolitan Bureau of Environment cites it as the origin of the name Koganei, but the city's cultural property center newsletter notes that Nukui became part of Koganei only in 1889 and calls that origin unreasonable.
