01 / Ground Golf

A ball stopped in the hole post is called“Tomari,” a name that keeps its birthplace.

In 1982, the Tomari village board of education, with national support, developed the rules. A ball at rest in the hole post is called “tomari” so that the birthplace, Tomari village, would be remembered—a wish of those who created it.

02 / Hashizu Domain Rice Storehouses

Tax rice gathered at Hashizu went by sen-goku shipto Osaka and became the domain's revenue.

These were the Tottori domain's rice storehouses at the mouth of the Hashizu River. Tax rice was shipped from Hashizu Port to Osaka on sen-goku ships and sold for cash, funding the domain. Three buildings remain, designated prefectural protected cultural properties. Visits by inquiry.

03 / Hawai Onsen

Hot water wells up from the bed of Lake Tōgō.The inns stand on a sandbar jutting into the lake.

Hawai Onsen lies on the west shore of Lake Tōgō and was once called Asozu Onsen. Its abundant source wells up from the lake bed, and the water flows freely. Around the lake, hot springs have been developed since about the Meiji era.

  1. 01The Hōki Ichinomiya Sutra Mound, on the grounds of Shitori Shrine in Miyauchi, holds a bronze sutra case buried in 1103 in the hope it would be dug up 5.67 billion years later, when Maitreya appears. The finds are a national treasure, on deposit at the Tokyo National Museum.
