Analysis of a bronze lump showedthe Great Buddha's copper came from Naganobori.

A national Historic Site in Naganobori, Mitō. In 1988 a chemical analysis of a bronze lump excavated west of the Great Buddha Hall of Todaiji showed that the copper used at the Buddha's founding came from Naganobori. Excavated wooden tablets revealed a government copper-mining and smelting office of Nagato Province, active from the 8th to the 10th century.
