A skit from Act 5 of Chūshingura comes mid-dance,then the dancers go from house to house.

Designated a prefectural intangible folk cultural property in 1973. It is said to have begun as the door-to-door performance of ganinbōzu, low-ranking monks, who performed in many places in the Edo period, and to have reached the town about 300 years ago. A skit from Act 5 of Chūshingura is staged mid-dance, and after the offering at Hitoichi Shrine on 5 May, the dancers go from house to house.

02 / Ura Castle ruins

A castle site recorded with enclosures and cut ditchesis said to have used a waterfall for drinking water.

Ura Castle was a mountain castle set at the summit in the late Muromachi period, using the lie of the land. The prefectural archaeological map records enclosures, belt enclosures and cut ditches, and a non-profit group maintains the site and recreates a medieval mountain castle. Murakumo Falls is said to have supplied its drinking water at the time.

03 / Mikurahana

Literati have long visited this spot,and a Shiki haiku monument stands in it.

Mikurahana Park is a scenic spot where the old Lake Hachirōgata could be seen, with a vast panorama of sky, horizon and lake. Many literati, including Kōda Rohan and Masaoka Shiki, have long visited, and the park holds a monument to Shiki's haiku of a single crane over the clear inlet under a high autumn sky.

The town's gateway is Hachirōgata Station on the JR Ōu Main Line. According to the town, it takes 3 hours 37 minutes from Tokyo Station to Akita Station on the Akita Shinkansen Komachi, then 34 minutes from Akita Station on the Ōu Main Line. The station-front complex Ekimae Kōryūkan Hachipal houses a library and a child-care support centre. The town describes itself as an area with little snow within the prefecture.
