01 / Float festival

Hoteiyama's "Kudari" rhythmis built from groups of 7 and 9 beats.

Held at the festival of Okoppe Kasuga Shrine, it is a prefectural intangible folk cultural property. Hoteiyama, said to be the oldest of the floats, keeps a form with no roof. Each float has its own music; the prefecture notes that Hoteiyama's "Kudari" is built from groups of 7 and 9 beats, unusual in the distribution of Shimokita music.

03 / Zaimoku stone

In Zaimoku, columnar-jointed rockhas been used for walls and roof weights.

Around Tsubanazaki, columnar joints form a landscape of slender pillars, and the rock is called "zaimokuishi". Crumbly and easy to cut out, it has been used for roof weights and stone walls. The place name Zaimoku in Okoppe is thought to come from this stone.
