  1. 01Shikokuchuo is a city on the Uma plain, facing Hiuchi-nada Sea at the eastern end of Ehime. According to a prefectural document, the plan to divert the Dozan River (Dozan-gawa), part of the Yoshino River system, onto the plain was first conceived in 1855, and the 1954 completion of Yanase Dam marked a "wish of 100 years fulfilled."
  2. 02The yamaji wind is said to blow out of a rock hole near the summit of Mt. Toyouke, and dumplings are thrown into it at Toyouke Shrine's festivals. The Uma Mukaiyama Tumulus in Kinsei is a National Historic Site with two stone chambers, and the mountain path linking Sankakuji and its inner sanctuary is also a national site.
  3. 03The city announces that its shipments of pulp, paper and processed paper products have ranked first in Japan for 20 years in a row since the 2004 merger (2023 figures). Mizuhiki cord craft is a local specialty, and the city is known for the Shodo Performance Koshien, which began in a high school calligraphy club, and for its taiko-drum float autumn festivals.
