In 1578 Hideyoshi starved out Miki Castle and its lord Bessho Nagaharu took his own life. To bring the burnt town back, Hideyoshi exempted it from taxes. Carpenters came, and with them the smiths who made their tools, and Miki became a town of blades.
02 ／ Golf
The city has 25 golf courses, which it says is the largest number in western Japan. They run from members-only clubs to tournament courses to places juniors can play, and city hall has a section devoted to golf.
03 ／ Yamada Nishiki
Yamada Nishiki (山田錦), held to be the best rice for brewing sake, is grown in greater quantity in Miki than anywhere in Japan. Breweries in the city use it, and Yamada Nishiki no Yakata sells sake made from the local crop.

Shinki buses take about 50 minutes from in front of JR Sannomiya Station and about 40 from JR Akashi Station. By rail it is the Kobe Electric Railway Ao Line, about 55 minutes from Shinkaichi. City hall is about 20 minutes' walk from Miki Uenomaru Station.
