Kurikara Fudoji (倶利迦羅不動寺), on the Ishikawa side of Kurikara Pass (倶利伽羅峠), holds a statue of Fudo Myoo (不動明王) said to have been carved in 718 at the wish of Empress Genshō. Its halls burned in the 1183 battle and were later rebuilt, tradition says, by Minamoto no Yoritomo. The temple is counted among Japan's three great Fudo temples. Near the foot of the pass, a statue at Kurikara Station recalls the old "fire-ox" tactic.
