In the Battle of Kurikara in 1183, Kiso Yoshinaka is said to have prayed for victory at Hanyu Gokoku Hachimangu (埴生護国八幡宮) at the foot of the pass, and a copy of his prayer is kept at the shrine. Sarugababa (猿ヶ馬場), where the Taira commander Taira no Koremori set up his headquarters, lies on the Oyabe side of the prefectural border. The shrine buildings, donated by the Maeda family, are an Important Cultural Property, and in a shrine rite young men in armor walk around the veranda seven and a half times.

At Miyajima Gorge (宮島峡) on the Konashi River (子撫川), the Ichi-no-taki falls, about 3 m high, drop across the full width of the river, and some 20 m downstream about 20 round holes, large and small, line the rock riverbed. They are potholes (甌穴, oketsu), carved as pebbles caught in small hollows were spun by the current and ground away the rock. As a rare geological feature, they were designated a prefectural natural monument together with the falls in 1965.

At the end, the giant lanterns are rammed into each other one against one, each side smashing the other's hanging ornaments. It began as a rice festival praying for a good harvest on Yasungoto (ヤスンゴト), June 10 and 11, and the city believes it is the oldest of the town-center rice festivals in the Tonami region.
