Izumi Fumoto was selected as a nationally Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1995 (Heisei 7). The city says that, about 400 years ago, the hills were leveled over some 30 years and walls of river stones were built, according to tradition. Tatebaba is a street in this district. The city adds that the other fumoto in the domain are said to have followed Izumi's.
