Danced every eight years at the festival,with a demon mask from the Horeki era.

At Minamikata Shrine (Suwa Shrine) in the Haru district, the kagura is danced at the festival held every eight years. Said to belong to the Izumo style of kagura, it has eight dances, from Chihari to the demon dance. The demon-dance mask dates from the Horeki era (1751-1764), and it is said to "laugh" when the dance peaks.

02 / Goshikihama and Hikarize

Chert washed by the wavesforms a pebble beach of many colors.

Chert exposed on the reef called Hikarize and along the shore is washed by the waves and becomes a pebble beach of chert in many colors. The prefecture has designated Hikarize and Goshikihama a Natural Monument, and radiolarian fossils of the Late Triassic and Middle Jurassic have been reported from the chert of Goshikihama.

03 / Matsuki Koan Family House

The house where the Father of Telegraphyspent his childhood stands in Wakimoto.

Matsuki Koan (Terajima Munenori) is a native of Akune whom the city calls the "Father of Electric Telegraphy." The house where he spent his childhood was built in the Tenpo era and is a city-designated historic site, valued for showing the local way of life of its time. In front of the house, Terajima, the island behind his new name, can be seen.
