  1. 01Okadome Kofuku Station was newly built in 1989 (Heisei 1), when the third-sector Kuma River Railway was established. It took its name because the nearby Okadome Kumanoza Shrine (岡留熊野座神社) is said to be a shrine that “stops misfortune and prays for happiness” and has long been loved as the “Kofuku (happiness) Shrine.”
  2. 02The Bishamonten and Guardian King statues at Bishamon Hall (荒茂毘沙門堂), handed down at the former Shofukuji, are Important Cultural Properties. At the Saizon Kofun group, the town website (2018) says the chamber of Mound No. 2 is exposed and its structure is easy to see.
  3. 03Menda-style pottery is a jar with bands of overlapping arcs, with the Motome site in the former town of Menda as its type site. The town also has the Nunomizu Falls (布水の滝), a town-designated place of scenic beauty, with a male fall of 18m and a female fall of 8m.
