The tomb of Iha Fuyu (1876-1947), called the father of Okinawan studies, lies within the grounds of Urasoe Castle Site. The city's guide records that his paper Urasoe-ko revealed Urasoe to have been the center of the Chuzan kingdom of Ryukyu before Shuri. He was born into a samurai-class family in Naha Nishimura.

02 / Toyama Stone Road and Ahacha Bridge

Where the stone-paved royal pilgrimage road survives, the slope was steep enough to make horses fall.

On the road from Shuri to Urasoe Castle, the arch of Ahacha Bridge's north bridge is made of three wide Ryukyu limestone blocks. On the pilgrimage road branching toward Futenma Shrine, about 210 m of the Toyama stone road remains, and the road here was called Umadu-kerashi, meaning where horses fall.
