In 1973 fragments of a dotaku (bronze bell) mold were unearthed at the Higashinara Site, and the No. 1 mold was found the next year. It is a stone mold cut with a flowing-water pattern, 43.5 cm tall and weighing 28 kg. The finds including the mold are a national Important Cultural Property. Taishokkan was a court rank conferred on Fujiwara no Kamatari. The shrine that bears its name has no hall: beyond the stone steps, a small shrine stands inside the burial mound's stone chamber. In the Edo period the mound was thought to be Kamatari's tomb, and a signpost to it still stands. The city says veneration of Taishokkan remains strong in the Ai area and its surroundings.

  • A signpost to the "tomb of Lord Fujiwara no Kamatari"
  • No hall; a shrine inside the stone chamber

03 / Traditional vegetable

In a farming method kept since the Edo period, fermentation heat from straw and hay grows udo.

Mishima udo is a specialty grown in the former Mishima District since the Tenpo era of the Edo period, and one of Osaka Prefecture's "Naniwa no Dento Yasai" (traditional vegetables of Osaka). Udo plants are set in an udo hut, covered with straw and hay, and kept warm by the heat of fermentation. The shoots push up through the straw and hay without touching outside air.
