Porcelain inked with "Tsuna" and "Wang Qian"is strong evidence of a landing port.

The site of a settlement that lasted from the late Heian period to the early Edo period, it appears in medieval records as "Toubou" (唐坊). Much 12th-century Chinese porcelain has been unearthed; "Tsuna" (綱) is thought to mark a trade-ship master and "Wang Qian" (王千) a Chinese man surnamed Wang.

Fukutsu City isthis kind of town.

  1. 01Miyajidake Kofun is a round tomb of the first half of the 7th century in the nationally designated Tsuyazaki Kofun Cluster, and serves as the sanctuary of Fudo Shrine, the inner shrine of Miyajidake Shrine. Its corridor-style stone chamber is 22 m long according to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and an image of Fudo Myoo is enshrined inside.
  2. 02The inside of the chamber is normally closed and visitors pray at the entrance; the city says it can be entered on January 28, February 28 and July 28. The National Treasure grave goods are held by the Kyushu National Museum (Dazaifu). The Tsuyazaki cluster also includes Katsuura Minenohata Kofun, whose chamber has stone pillars, and Tebika Namikiri-Fudo Kofun, whose chamber resembles Miyajidake's.
  3. 03Facing the Genkai Sea, Fukutsu also has the Tsuyazaki Gion Yamakasa, in which three oiyama floats run through Tsuyazaki Sengen every mid-July, the Tsuyazaki tidal flat, the prefectural natural monument Koinoura coast, and Katsuura beach, where sea turtles come ashore.
