This is a medieval mountain temple site on Mt. Hakusan, in the east of the Fukuoka Plain. In the late 13th century a large-scale earthwork brought the temple complex into order, and a Zen monk who had gone to Song China is recorded as having entered the mountain. At its peak it is said to have had 350 monastic lodgings, and in the early modern period it served as a training ground for the spring mountain entry of Mt. Homan (宝満山) Shugendo.
