A sandbar between sea and lakeholds a spring of fresh water.
The city says the sandbar is 200 to 700 m wide and 20 km long, separating the Sea of Okhotsk from Lake Saroma. It explains that the name Wakka, an Ainu word meaning a place with water, comes from a freshwater marsh in the middle of the bar. Its spring is called the "Sacred Water of Flowers, Wakka's Water."
