On 29 November 2024 sake from Itami was given a geographical indication (GI) as Seishu Hassho no Chi Itami (清酒発祥の地 伊丹), the birthplace of clear sake. To use the name a brewer must use only domestic rice and only water drawn within the city. In 2020 a sake story from five cities, with Itami as lead city, was named a Japan Heritage.

Moats and earthworks enclosed the samurai quarter and the townspeople's quarter too, 800 metres east to west and 1,700 metres north to south. In the autumn of 1578 he turned against Oda Nobunaga; after ten months under siege the castle fell. It became a national historic site in December 1979.

Koyaike (昆陽池) was dug as a farm pond by the Nara-period monk Gyoki. The city made part of it a park in 1968 and finished the present layout in 1972 and 1973. It covers 27.8 hectares. In the natural pond is a bird island shaped like the Japanese archipelago, the symbol of the park, and one of the leading places in the Kansai region for migrating birds.
