The legend says sisters from the state of Wu came and spread the art of weaving; the city calls it "only a legend." In the city emblem, the well frame stands for the Somedono well and the spool for the place that honors the two princesses. The place names Kurehacho, Himemurocho and Ayaha are tied to the story. Similar tales remain in Nishinomiya and Kawanishi, Nara.

Paired torches, joined into the character "person,"are carried through the city at night.

Every year on 24 August, the characters "Dai-ichi" and "Dai" are lit on the slope of Mt. Satsuki. It is said to have begun in Shoho 1 (1644), when four men lit a fire on the mountain top, and it became an Osaka Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2010. The fire of "Dai" is brought to Hoshi-no-miya, where the weaving princesses are said to have woven.
