Mirrors and armor came from the rear mound,where a chest-shaped stone coffin lies.

A keyhole-shaped tomb built in the early 5th century, the largest of its kind in the Yamashiro area, ringed by a double moat. The city gives its total length, including the outer moat, as 272 m. Mirrors, beads, armor and weapons were found inside and outside the chest-shaped stone coffin in the rear mound.

02 / Bracelet

Among bracelets found in Japan, this onemost faithfully copies a limpet shell.

Two bronze bracelets came from the wooden coffin of Shibagahara Kofun. The ring carries 72 radiating ridges, and every other ridge ends in a projection. The Agency for Cultural Affairs says the shape of the ridges and rim most faithfully copies a limpet shell.

03 / Jizo

A stone Jizo sleeps in a water jar,lifted out to pray for rain in a drought.

A stone Jizo statue is kept in a water jar in a small shrine by the pond in the Kannondo district. When drought brought water shortages, nearby farmers lifted it out and prayed for rain. At the 1994 ritual, rain began to fall as they prayed.
