01 / Statue

The National Treasure Eleven-Headed Kannonis a Nara-period wood-core dry lacquer work.

Built up with lacquer over a wooden core, it stands 172.7 cm tall and weighs 66.0 kg. Seven of the small heads above, the right earlobe and the fingers of both hands (except the right fifth) were added later, and a Showa-era repair gave it its present form (Kyotanabe Tourist Association). It is the only National Treasure in the city.

02 / Farmhouse

An L-shaped thatched roof,an official-residence style unlike an ordinary farmhouse.

Built in 1741 (Kanpo 1) with an irimoya hip-and-gable roof. Old documents from its construction, including the building application (fushin ganjo), survive and are Important Cultural Properties, like the house itself. The Sawai family served as deputies for the Donge-in temple's estate from 1732, and conservation repair was completed in 2007.

The garden around the abbot's quartersdiffers on the south, east and north.

The north garden is a dry-landscape garden said to represent Mount Horai, with a rock about 2 m tall, the Kannon Stone, in its northeast corner. The east garden's stones are said to evoke the sixteen arhats, and the south garden has clipped azaleas and a large cycad. The design is attributed to three men, including Ishikawa Jozan.
