The prefectural treasure, the former Arai residence, is estimated to date from the late 18th century for the main house and the early 19th century for the guest-room wing. Its roof is shingled, as the rules of the day required, and while many plots in the post town were about 4 ken wide, the honjin front is 13.5 ken (about 24.5 m). The village records it as the only honjin building on the Ina Road to survive in its Edo-period form.

  • Frontage 13.5 ken (about 24.5 m)
  • Main house estimated late 18th c.

02 / Nakagoshi Site

If people are imagined moving up the Tenryu River, this western-style pottery can be explained.

Nakagoshi-style pottery of the early Early Jomon is somewhat thin, holds no fibre, and has a gently pointed base. The village describes this western Japanese character, unlike eastern pottery, as a distinctive ware born of strong influence from the Tokai region. The site is a prefectural historic site, and 221 finds are prefectural treasures.

Some 7,570 person-days from eight villagesrebuilt about 6 km of boar fence.

In July 1808, the boar fence from the Fujisawa River to the Otagiri River, 54 cho 20 ken (about 6 km), was rebuilt. The moat on the mountain side was cleared, the embankment repaired, a double fence set on top, and the gates and sluices renewed. The village records that most of the fence drawn on the old map vanished with the Chuo Expressway works.
