Fukuoka Kashi (福岡河岸), a river landing on the Shingashi River (新河岸川), began around 1733 when villagers started carrying cargo alongside their farming. The boat agent Fukudaya (福田屋) opened in 1831, and its buildings have been a memorial museum since 1996. Its three-storey wooden annex, said to have been built around 1900 by the tenth head, Hoshino Senzō (星野仙蔵), to entertain guests, is the only one of its kind left as a residence in the prefecture.
