Flower growing in Kōnosu began in 1948, when farmers in the Teraya (寺谷) district took up pansies. Salvia and marigolds followed in 1962, and today the city has more than 150 flower-growing farms. In 2002 the Kōnosu Flower Center (鴻巣フラワーセンター), a flower market jointly funded by the city, opened.

Doll making in Kōnosu is said to have some 400 years of history, and in the Edo period the town was counted among the "three great hina doll markets of Kantō". A record from 1902 lists 31 doll makers and 300 craftsmen. Residents named their neighbourhood association Ningyō-chō (人形町, "doll town"), and in 1965 Ningyō (人形) became the official place name.

Japan's official "river width" is the distance between the levees, floodplain included. In February 2008 a survey by the Arakawa Upstream River Office found the Arakawa between Kōnosu and Yoshimi to be 2,537 m wide, the widest in Japan. The flowing water itself is usually only a few dozen metres across. Poppy fields spread over the broad floodplain, which hosts a fireworks display in autumn.
