At the end of the Kofun period,they dug graves into the hill.

Yoshimi Hyakuana (吉見百穴, "Hundred Holes of Yoshimi") is a group of cave tombs dug into a hillside of soft tuffaceous sandstone between the late 6th and late 7th centuries. 219 tombs can still be counted, and the site became a National Historic Site in 1923. Inside the holes grows luminous moss (hikarigoke), extremely rare on the Kantō Plain; its habitat is a National Natural Monument.
