Jikō-ji's builders passed their skillson to the town's doors and screens.

Tokigawa's tategu (建具), the wooden doors, sliding screens and fittings of Japanese houses, are said to have begun some 1,300 years ago, when craftsmen gathered from across Japan to build Jikō-ji (慈光寺) settled here after the temple was finished and passed on their skills. It is the oldest woodwork joinery tradition in Saitama, and output is among the largest in the prefecture. The Tategu Kaikan (建具会館) displays doors and fusuma screens and takes orders.

Jikō-ji is temple No. 9 of the Bandō 33 Kannon pilgrimage. Its Lotus Sutra set (法華経一品経) and other scrolls, 33 in all, were copied in the early Kamakura period by people linked to the Kujō family together with the retired Emperor Go-Toba, and are decorated with gold and silver dust and leaf. They are a National Treasure, counted with the Heike Nōkyō and the Kunōji Sutra as one of Japan's three great decorated sutras.

After the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan closed it in 2000, it became the town's Hoshi to Midori no Sōzō Center (星と緑の創造センター), with log cabins and other lodging. At booked stargazing nights, visitors can view the sky through the 91 cm reflector.
