Mount Omuro (大室山), 580 m and shaped like an upturned bowl, is burned from foot to summit on the second Sunday of February, a custom of about 700 years. A lift takes you to the top, where a walk of about 1 km around the crater looks out to Mount Fuji and the Izu Islands.

Miura Anjin (William Adams), adviser to Tokugawa Ieyasu, built Western-style sailing ships at the mouth of the Matsukawa River in Ito: a first of about 80 tonnes, finished in 1604, and in 1607 the 120-tonne San Buena Ventura. The Anjin Festival (按針祭) marks it every August.
