Groundwater from Mount Fuji rises in Rakujuen by Mishima station and feeds the Genbe River, about 1.5 km of it running through the town centre. Stepping stones and boardwalks are set in the water, so you can walk through it. Daily life and the water are continuous.
02 ／ History
Mishima Taisha, first shrine of Izu Province, where Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed for the revival of his clan while exiled to Izu. Its fragrant olive tree is estimated at over 1,200 years old, and its scent was said to carry two ri.
03 ／ Food
Eel brought in from where it is farmed is held for four or five days in groundwater from Mount Fuji. The muddy smell goes, and the excess fat with it. Walk through the town centre and the smell of grilling reaches you from several directions.
