The fish market at Numazu Port (沼津港) is among the busiest in Japan by volume and value. Sunny, dry and swept by strong seasonal winds, Numazu suits the drying of fish, and its horse mackerel himono (あじのひもの), soaked in brine made with groundwater from Mt. Fuji, make it one of the country's leading producers.

Heda (戸田), on the west coast of Izu, faces a Suruga Bay that drops to 500 m about 2 km from the harbour, and deep-sea fishing has gone on here for a long time. The trawl nets bring up the Japanese spider crab, the world's largest crab, and mehikari (greeneyes). Fishing pauses from May to September.

In 1893 the Numazu Imperial Villa was built for the future Emperor Taishō to rest. It closed in 1969 and became a memorial park, and in 2016 part of it was designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty as the former villa gardens (旧沼津御用邸苑地). The West Annex still holds the furniture of the time.
