The Furutone River Lantern Festival (古利根川流灯まつり) is Sugito's summer event, held every early August. About 250 handmade lanterns, each roughly the size of a tatami mat, float on the water for about 1 km along the river's bends. The tourism association calls it "the Milky Way come down to earth", and in 2026 it was held for the 31st time.

Sugito-juku (杉戸宿) is said to have been set up in 1616 as the fifth post town on the Nikkō Kaidō road from Nihonbashi. Hōshō-in (宝性院) in Yokomachi grew up with the town as its "neighbourhood temple", also serving as a terakoya school and an inn, and in the Meiji era it housed the county office and Sugito School. At the corner of the old kinked street, the house and storehouse of Kadokoku (角穀), once a rice wholesaler, still stand.

Agri Park Yume Sugito (アグリパークゆめすぎと), a "town station" and roadside station, is a farm park of 10.2 hectares with a farm shop, a restaurant, farm plots and a paddy for visitors. The farm shop sells vegetables and rice grown in Sugito. In 2010 the friendship-town agreement with Tomioka, Fukushima Prefecture, was signed here, and the shop has a corner selling Tomioka's products.

The town's station is Sugito-Takanodai on the Tobu Nikkō Line. The town office is about a 15-minute walk from the east exit of Tōbu-Dōbutsu-Kōen Station, which is in neighbouring Miyashiro. Trains run through onto the Hibiya and Hanzōmon subway lines, and the town says Ginza is about 70 minutes away and Shibuya about 90.
