Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha (富士山本宮浅間大社) is regarded as the head shrine of the many Sengen shrines across Japan. Its present buildings were erected in 1606 with a donation from Tokugawa Ieyasu. The mountain above the eighth station became state land in the Meiji era, but following a 1974 Supreme Court ruling it was transferred to the shrine in 2004. In the grounds, Fuji’s spring water fills Wakutama Pond (湧玉池).

At Shiraito Falls (白糸の滝), Mount Fuji’s snowmelt springs from a cliff where a permeable layer of newer volcanic rock sits on an impermeable older layer. Hundreds of streams, large and small, pour from a curved cliff 20 m high and 150 m wide. The falls are a national Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument, and part of the Mount Fuji World Heritage site.
